Quitting your New Year's Resolutions Already? // The Breakfast Edit

Hey lovelies. I thought I would start up a new monthly series called 'The Breakfast Edit' where I talk to you all about all sorts of lifestyle/health related topics as well as, well... my breakfast! Think of it like a morning chat, that .... where I can answer a few Q and A questions, ramble to you all and show you the food I've been loving lately with a mini recipe.

This post, I thought I would start with quite a fitting one for this month: New Year's Resolutions. New Year's is an exciting time for many people because it's an excuse to start afresh and plan out new goals, and for lots of people, I can guarantee their goals are fitness/health related! Whether is be joining the gym, losing a few pounds, or eating healthier; annoyingly these are the kinds of goals that never seem to make it past January. So you end up telling yourself to 'try again next year?' while eating that leftover pizza from last night and stuffing your workout clothes to the back of your wardrobe. Familiar? This year though, I'm determined to New Year's Resolutions since last year I achieved a pretty huge one for me in Joining the Gym. It was something I half-expected to last a month or two, but guess what, a whole year later and I'm still going 4-5 times a week even now. And if I'm 14 and have mustered up enough motivation to do that - then for sure you can do too!
So along with 'my brekkie,' here are a few Q and A questions soon staying motivated this month, and not quitting your New Year's Resolutions already.

Breakfast Number 1

You will need:

  • 1/2 Avocado
  • Wholewheat Toast
  • Chia Seeds / Pine Nuts
  • 1/2 a Banana
  • Herbal Fruit Tea
  • Cactus Water

All the 'Good Stuff' (200-250 calories)

This is definitely more of a weekend breakfast for me, mainly because on a school day I only have time for a bowl of granola or boiled egg but it's one my favourites. You can't go wrong with Avo-Toast and if any of you are looking for healthy breakfast ideas to keep up with you're New Year's Resolutions it's a good 'un!

Wholewheat Toast packed with good carbs to last you through morning .
Avocado for healthy fats.
- Banana contains the right amount of protein and fibre to kickstart your day.
Chia seeds for Omega 3.
Cactus Water is lower in calories than Aloe Vera or Coconut Water and packed with antioxidants.

Q: Do you think New Year's Resolutions are a waste of time anyway?

I know lots of people have mixed feelings about New Year's Resolutions and how they seem to have this rep for being 'destined to fail' but I always make them. I'm a huge planner / goal-setter sort of person I guess and I find unless I write something down or set it in stone it simply won't happen and that's why I like the excuse of the New Year to set goals. You have to be actually serious about doing them though, if you've set the same goals for 3 years in a row and it hasn't happened yet... chances are it's not going to unless YOU absolutely try your hardest this year. Don't blame the New Year hype haha!

Q: How to stay motivated to workout in Winter?

Oh I definitely feel this oh myyyy! Especially things like running, I can't honestly say I have any motivation to get up in the freezing cold and go for a run, but instead find new kinds of exersise in the Winter months that you can actually be motivated to do. Things like going to the gym (nice and warm  inside phew!) or yoga would be good, and that way you can't use the excuse 'it's too cold outside' when you're in a lazy slump!

Q: Intimidated by joining the gym and other people seeing me exercising?

From having one of those dreaded 'induction' thingys, to the fear of seeing people you know there ... I completely get it. I was so terrified the first time I went to the gym. Surrounded by sweaty people lifting weights or adults who just looked like they knew exactly what they were doing, after I forgot how to turn the treadmill on (yes, nerves did that to me haha!) it was enough to make me turn around and leave. As a young person joining for the first time it was so intimidating but trust me everyone is just as focussed on their own goals to really care what you're up to over there on that treadmill. Just make sure you know how everything there works and then there's no way you can embarrass yourself!

Q: What advice would you give someone who has fallen off the wagon with a resolution?

Don't quit just because the first month hasn't gone to plan! January isn't the be-all and end-all if you mess up you've got another 11 months to go and achieve it. If things really aren't working then maybe it's time to break down the goal into more manageable steps or rethink how you planned to do it, but the best advice I can give is to just 'get back on' and not be down on yourself for falling off the wagon the first time. After all, it's your resolutions ... no one else is going to judge you for it!

Hope you enjoyed this post, and let me know in the comments ideas for the next topic for a Breakfast Edit post! It could honestly be on anything and I can't wait to show you another one of my favourite Breakfasts in the next post. Happy New Year everyone and hope this post has motivated you a little more to keeping up your New Year's Resolutions in 2018. We're one month-in already yikes!

  2. Haha I don't even bother with resolutions, I never stick to them! Instead I set myself overall goals for the year. That way I don't need to do them instantly in the New Year, it's just something I work towards :)

  3. Oh this breakfast looks like a really nice way to kick start the day with the combination of flavours and textures. I’ve never tried cactus water before. Maybe I should try sarting the day with a herbal tea.
