5 Youtubers for Mental Health and Body Confidence!

Hey lovelies! So a few weeks ago I kind of went through a downwards spiral in terms of my mood //  mental health // and confidence and although I never mentioned it on here ... it was quite a rubbish time for me. It's so hard to 'fix' things when they're all in your head but while I was feeling so low I ended up watching a lot more of certain youtubers and I cannot tell you how much it helped. Most parents find it baffling how much of an impact a youtuber behind a screen can have on someone, but it really is true and today I wanted to share with you my favourite youtubers 'for mental health and body confidence.' All these channels helped me so much in uplifting my mood and gradually getting my confidence back to normal, some through advice videos and others through music or poetry, but I love every one of them for their unique styles. If you're ever feeling down or are suffering with things like mental health or body confidence, please please please try watching these youtubers and I hope they make you feel as happy watching them as I do!

Melanie Murphy

Melanie is a Dublin-born, bubbly youtuber who over the years I have grown to absolutely love. She cover a range of topics on her channel, from sexuality, to self-care to happiness and particularly her advice videos have always been a favourite of mine. She suffered with body-dysmorphia in the past and so this is a big topic on her channel and links to confidence issues. It literally puts a smile on my face every time I see and upload notification from her and she really is that kind of youtuber that gives you that 'big sister' or 'best friend' vibe. My favourite videos of Melanie's are her PMS Party ones, where she openly talks about her period // monthly cravings // and tips ... all while sitting down with a cup of tea!

Dodie dodie dodie. I'm sure you've heard me mention how much I love her on my blog before, but aside from her music videos and covers Dodie is pretty unlucky in terms of mental illness. You can find out so much more about this just by watching her, but Dodie suffers from depression and depersonalisation herself and unlike a lot of youtubers who talk about how they've overcome it, she is still struggling. By talking about it in videos (particularly on her second channel) and on instagram, she's really raised awareness of mental illness and there's something very raw and real about Dodie that I love. She recently announced she was writing a book which will be coming out in November, and I'm hoping there's even more about this and other personal stories included in it!
Grace quite literally calls herself 'the internet's big sister' and I feel like this is the perfect way to describe her! I mentioned her in my bikini body post, and out of all the youtubers I watch she has to be the best one for body confidence. She's sassy, sweet and the ultimate girlpower inspiration, making videos about self-care // fashion // and beauty that I can't get enough of. The best videos of her to watch when you're feeling down are her: '8 things all girls should know about body confidence/image' or her 'Pressure to be perfect' video. For years she has been giving what she calls 'big sister' advice surrounding body confidence and mental illness on youtube, but in a recent video she announced that she is looking to officially study as a therapist in the future and I just know she will be amazing at it!

I originally discovered Lucy when I bumped into her and Chai (another youtuber) in Brighton last year, but at the time I had no idea who she was and so all the excitement was lost on me. Now I can honestly say if I saw her again in real life I would be hyperventilating haha! Lucy talks a lot about self-love, feminism and anxiety on her channel, all with a bit of music and poetry sprinkled in too. But the thing I find super interesting on her channel, are her videos on alchohol and her relationship with it. This year, because of numerous reasons. she decided to give it up and it's been amazing to follow her journey through that and why she did it. Her entire channel is also so aesthetically pleasing and calming.

Hannah has to be the funniest, most down-to-earth youtuber ever and so more than anything she's a really easy youtuber to watch. As well as being the main focus for her channel, she speaks a lot about sex, periods and body confidence and I love how openly she does this as it really shouldn't be something people are scared to discuss! She gives advice, chats about her own struggles with body positivity ect. and one of my favourite series on her channel is called 'The Hormone Diaries.' Funnily enough, Lucy Moon who I mentioned above actually designed the intro to that series for Hannah, but in her hormone diary videos she talks about her own relatable experiences that month as well as rants // updates // and other girl related stuff. I honestly wish there were more youtubers out there like her!

  12. This is such a great post thank you for these recommendations - I totally agree, Youtubers today have such a big impact and can be so great in boosting my mood, I really love chatty cup-o'-tea videos as it's kind of like listening to a friend! I really appreciate videos on mental health - particularly body confidence - because I struggle with it a lot (as do a lot of people evidently!) so thanks for mentioning these guys!

I love the sound of Melanie and can't believe I haven't heard of her before!? Grace is brilliant, I watch her videos too and think she's great! I also watch Lucy Moon and Hannah Witton and think you've summed them both up perfectly! I can't wait to watch the rest!!

  13. YES! I love all of these women and regularly watch them all. They're all so vital to the mental health movement and do so much good in awareness. I think the best has to be Grace Victory because of her eating disorder videos and her chat to her eating disorder counsellor. That was a fascinating and eye opening video. I absolutely adore Lucy Moon, especially when she talks about self-care and self growth - that sort of thing. She is my go-to YouTuber when I am in need of self-care myself! xx
