Tips for Teenage Skin // 7 Ways

Hey lovelies! How has your Wednesday been? So if any of you are teens like me, you will relate to the struggle of 'teenage skin.' Hormones and all that jazz leaving you with spots, acne, oily skin and all those painfully annoying things and unfortunately... that's pretty innevitable! Some get it worse than others, but being a teenager myself, I've found a few tips for keeping my skin a bit more under-control and so for this post I thought I'd bring back my good old '7 Ways' series yay. Hope you guys find this helpful, and let me know down in the comments what skin-type you have? I have a mix of combination // oily!

1) KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE

Before splurging out on expensive skincare products and cleansers it's important to know what skin type you have so you can get the right products to suit your skin. I personally, have combination skin, meaning I have an oily t-zone but other areas of my face can get very dry at times; but there are plenty of little tests and questionaires you can do online to figure yours out. I've created a pintrest board which you can click here that has a ton of info on this too.

2) DITCH THE FANCY PRODUCTS

Now although there are obviously exceptions, I've got to say most fancy skincare items are an absolute swizz and sometimes you're better off sticking with your classic products! Your skin doesn't always need an hour-long moisturising routine or a bathroom crammed with different lotions and potions, just a simple handful of products and you're good to go. Give your skin a break haha!

3) MY HOLY-GRAIL SKINCARE PRODUCTS (innexpensive!)

Just like I mentioned above, you don't need to invest in ridiculously expensive skincare products to improve your skin. Here are a few products I've been using for years that have seriously helped with my 'teenage-skin!'

4) DRINK MORE WATER

The oldest tip in the book, but one of the best sorry! Water and staying hydrated is the absolute key to preventing breakouts and spots. No matter how well you clean your skin on the outside, it's going to need a lil' more nourishing on the inside, hence the 'drink more water' tip!

5) DON'T WEAR HEAVY FOUNDATIONS OR MAKEUP EVERY DAY

This is fine every so often, but wearing a full face of makeup every single day can really clog your pores and trigger breakouts. Avoid wearing super heavy foundations as a teen, and (I know we all forget sometimes!) but remember to remove makeup before you go to bed otherwise you may wake up with a super spotty face haha!

6) DEVELOP A SMALL ROUTINE

Eg. Use a cleanser every morning and a thick moisturiser at night on your skin. It sounds so simple but even the smallest of routines can help your skin, you don't need an extensive morning or night routine don't worry! Also make sure to set aside enough time during the day to do this, skipping it is so easy but your skin will hate you for it later.

7) BE CONFIDENT IN YOUR BARE SKIN

Sorry but acne-prone skin is only a side-effect of being a teenager! This is probably the most important tip in the post, but remember to be confident in your bare skin. Everyone is going through the same spontaneous breakouts and while you can deal with it as best you can, it's all part of being your age. Try your hardest not to worry or feel self-concious about this no matter what people say, and enjoy yourself instead!

  1. Such great tips, I wish I'd read this post when I was a teen! I 100% agree about drinking water, it has so many benefits! I'd also add a healthy diet as well, boosting your fruit and veggie intake is a huge plus - and not just for your skin!

  5. I think having a routine is really important but also accepting your skin and face how they are, are too. I didn't have much skin issues when I was a teenager but loads of my friends did. Ironically, confidence was the source of their skin problem. xx corinne

  12. Nice post! One of my tips would be to remove your makeup every night as I know some people don't do it and it can be so bad for your skin.
