Heyyy lovelies! What? Another review? Yep haha, I couldn't miss reviewing (or raving!) about this lil' gem on my blog since it really has become a staple in my makeup collection lately. I have quite a few Benefit pieces but surprisingly I had never tried High Beam until I popped it into my shopping basket online last month. Some people love liquid highlighters, others hate it but today I thought I'd share with you my thoughts on this Benefit Highlighter plus some swatches too!
HighBeam retails at £19.50 online (which is average sorta price for a non-drugstore highlighter) but since I was trying it for the first time I bought the mini 4ml version for £5.99. 4ml sounds like nothing but a little really does go a long way with this product so I do think it will take me a good couple of months to get through this mini bottle.
The actual product comes in what looks like a nail polish bottle (no kidding, people have actually asked to borrow it thinking it's a gorgeous nail colour hahaha!) A lot of people hate the packaging but I think it's adorable either way. the applicator is super quick, you never have to dip in for more product and it's super compact. No problem if you ask me!
In the pictures above you can see how I generally like to apply it, I dot the product along edge of my cheekbones or on my brow bone and then simply blend lightly with my fingertips. Alternatively you could do this with a brush, but I find the warmth of my fingertips actually helps 'melt' it into my skin rather than just sitting on top of it as a powder highlighter might do.
I didn't blend it as much as I usually would, simply so the swatch would be clearer for you guys, but as you can see, after blending the highlighter looks a lot less 'satin-pink' like in the bottle and really would suit most skin tones with it's subtle pearly glow. It's also super soft and not filled with masses of dry glitter flakes like many powder highlights. so nope, thankfully I do not end up entirely like Edward Cullen after one strobe, instead it' gives you a radiant, natural glow! Some people even like to add a little of the product into their foundation for that dewey finish High Beam gives.
Like I said before, the highlight is so beautifully soft and subtle (depending on how much you ... until your cheekbones catch the light. Then woahhh buddy you look like a freaking goddess all of a sudden haha! The staying power is also insane so you'll be glowing all day long.
Natural dewey highlighter, easy to apply, melts into your skin and of course being by Benefit is amazing quality.
I have none, but some people find the packaging of highbeam and direct application of the brush unhygienic.
If you're someone looking for a super intense highlighter this one may not be for you (as it's only buildable to a certain extent) But I much, much, much prefer this to a dry powdery highlighter and overall it's one of my favourite additions to my makeup collection. I would recommend starting with the smaller one like I did first, just to make sure you like it but if you're similar to me I'm sure you will! I'm also super excited to try out the other highlighters in the range like Sunbeam and Shybeam (I've already been eyeing them up on the website all week haha!)
